For a long time, wood was the choice material to make anything
out of. Forests were cleared, not only for farmland, but also to
harvest the much needed natural resource of timber. Pioneers and even
the early American settlers made everything out of wood. Wood furniture
was no exception. In fact the blue cypress tree was made extinct by
early american settlers and other furniture enthusiasts in early
America. As a result, any blue cypress logs which are excavated or
reclaimed from old logging roughness are worth a small fortune. There
are several communities in America that are famous for their wood
furniture. The Quakers come to mind. This community of religious
purists shun the use of electricity, and they still live much the way
they did at the turn of the century, building everything they have by
hand, and growing all their own food. The Amish are another group of
these type of people.
They are renowned across the country for their high quality wood
furniture. Their wares can be purchased from roadside stands that are
located near to their communities. Wood furniture is still considered
not only the most traditional form of furniture, it is considered by
most to be the best. Antique furniture, more often than not, is made of
wood. Wood furniture made out of good solid wood, and not composite
wood materials, such as oak and cherry tend to be rather expensive and
sturdy, not to mention heavy. Another good feature of wood furniture is
it's durability. A good, high quality set of wood furniture can be used
for a lifetime, and receive a lifetime of abuse. Time to throw it out,
right? Wrong. All you have to do is sand down the abused wood
furniture, and put a new coat of lacquer on it, and it will look
virtually brand new. Now it is ready for the next generation to get a
lifetime of enjoyment from it. If your wood furniture takes way too
much abuse it may require more than a new coat of varnish. This is not
a problem, however, because there are plenty of wood furniture
restoration specialists, who have the expertise to fix your wood
furniture for a price.
