Having the Rug to Fit the Room

The flooring in your rustic home is just as important as the furniture you have put in any room. Part of that flooring can be the rugs you put into a room. While you have no doubt seen the variety of rugs that are on the market, do you really know the difference between all the styles ofrustic rugs available?

Rag Rugs – If you are looking for a true old country feeling when it comes toe rustic area rugs, rag rugs are the way to go. These rugs have been woven out of a number of scrap pieces of cotton. These rugs became popular in the late 1700’s, at that time being made with old pieces of clothing and scraps of material that was left over. These look like something you may have made of hours and hours of your own time. There’s no need to tell anyone that wasn’t the case. If you don’t need a larger area rug, these can also be found in smallerrustic accent rugs and cabin throw rugs.

Woven Rugs – Chances are you have seen and even run your hands across your share of woven lodge rugs. These are rugs that have been hand woven on a frame to create a design in the piece. Some of these designs may include woodsy and nature themes, or accents that give a southwestern feel, often seen on larger lodge area rugs.  Large woven log cabin area rugs with a bear or moose design are right at home in any wilderness getaway.

Braided Rugs – Another hand created rug is the braided rug. These rugs are literally braids of yarn or fabric that are then sewn into a rug shape. These style rugs can make wonderful round lodge rugs or they can even be created in smaller sizes as oval cabin rugs or a series of scatter rugs to place throughout a room.

Outdoor Rugs – Rugs aren’t just for indoors anymore.  A new line of cabin rugs that are more sturdy, put up with more abuse and are easy to clean are outdoor rugs, perfect for a place to set your feet on the porch, or for other high traffic areas.
